Children in Need E-learning

Welcome to Children in Need, one of the core skills modules from our Care Matters course, supporting people’s well-being.

This is the e-learning module, with on average five hours of e-learning activities, research and assessment. You can complete the programme in your own time and at your own pace. We encourage you to join and interact with the e-learning group, but except where specified for assessment, this is not compulsory. There will be at least one opportunity to join an optional live webinar during the course. Your module tutor will be available to answer questions through the message facility on the e-learning site and will also contribute to the e-learning group forum. Your tutor will tailor the course to your learning goals and provide feedback on your work as you submit course assignments.

Like all our modules, Children in Need is person-centred and based on research, policy, practice and the expertise of experience. Successful completion of the module and the on-line final assessment leads to the award of a module certificate. Successful completion of five or more modules leads to the Care Matters course certificate.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, you should be able to:

  1. Define what makes a child “in need”
  2. Identify the role of Children’s Services in assessment
  3. Explain how to support children in this process to ensure their wishes and feelings are heard.

Module Flow

Your course is divided into 7 units. Each unit will provide information and include activities such as presentations, discussions, reading and research. You need to complete one unit to move on to the next. Some units will have an assessment activity like a quiz. When you have completed all the reading and activities for each unit, use the “mark complete” button to move to the next unit.

The module starts with a pre-course quiz that helps you and your tutor to assess your existing knowledge and focus your learning goals. The module progresses through the following units:

  1. Learning Centre
  2. Module resources and introductory quiz
  3. Who is a Child in Need?
  4. Child in Need threshold and assessments
  5. Services for Children in Need
  6. Child-centred practice
  7. Learning review and final assessment.
